I’m back at the desk after the Christmas Office Party Caribbean Style and about to do some serious editing work. Meantime a few people asked about the books I read while I was away. I brought four and would recommend all of them if you’re looking to gift a book this Christmas, or for a nice read for yourself. They were:

A Spool of Blue Thread by Anne Tyler which is an inter-generational American family story that draws you in straight away.

After You by JoJo Moyes – the sequel to the mega-bestseller Me Before You. Jojo does a really great job of picking up Louisa’s story. You’ll need tissues….

Leaving Berlin by Joseph Kanon – if you’re a John Le Carré fan you’ll like this as it’s a similar style. Set in Berline shortly after the end of WW2 it’s a very atmospheric spy story.

The Crossing by Michael Connolly. Michael is one of my comfort reads because I really enjoy his Harry Bosch novels and The Lincoln Lawyer with Mickey Haller was an absolute gem. Haller and Bosch work together in this crime/legal drama. Page-turner!
